About Us:

J & A Aviaries are Julie and Al Mitchell.  We live in historic Yorktown, VA, where we raise only Cockatiels.  We have had birds for more than 10 years and continuously work to improve our program.  Our philosophy is simple:  to breed large, pretty birds with sweet dispositions.  We breed our birds year round, so differing colors will be available at different times.

We specialize in some of the rare mutations with emphasis on Dominant Yellow Cheek, Fallow, Silver (recessive and dominant factor) and Sex Linked Yellow Cheek.  We are also breeding on a regular basis White Face and Pearl varieties.  Our prices range from $75 to $350.  The price range is dependent upon the individual bird, its mutation and bloodline.

If our program sounds interesting to you, please feel free to contact us at:  alna@cox.net.  We welcome all inquiries.  We have expanded our program to include the showing of these fine birds and in the process, have increased the quality of the birds that we are producing.  You do not have to be an exhibitor to purchase or appreciate our birds, just be prepared to give a loving and caring home.

We are proud members of the National Cockatiel Society (NCS), National Caged Bird Show (NCBS), North American Cockatiel Society (NACS), and Peninsula Caged Bird Society (PCBS).  If you are interested in learning more about any of the above clubs, please feel free to let us know and we'll be glad to help you find the club to fit your interest.  Currently, Julie is the Cockatiel Circle Leader for the Peninsula Caged Bird Society and writes articles for the PCBS Perch and the NCS Journal.  She is the one of the State Coordinators in the state of Virginia for NCS.  Also, we are proud to have our birds featured in the French book "La Calopsitte" by Jacqueline and Gabriel Prin.  Julie has also been a recent contributor to a cockatiel vocalization article in a special issue of BIRD TALK magazine's feature presentation on 'COCKATIELS'.
